One of the biggest mistakes people make in relationships is forgetting themselves while trying so hard to make someone else happy.

Love is beautiful, and making sacrifices for someone you care about is part of building a healthy relationship. But there is a difference between loving someone and losing yourself because of them.

Never become so desperate to keep someone that you start sacrificing your peace, happiness, self-respect, and personal growth just to make them stay.

The truth is, you can give someone your time, attention, loyalty, and genuine love, yet they may still decide to leave. That doesn't mean you weren't good enough. Sometimes, people simply aren't meant to continue the journey with us.

You should never have to destroy yourself to prove that you deserve to be loved.

A healthy relationship should give you room to grow, chase your dreams, express your feelings, and remain true to who you are. Your partner should appreciate your individuality, not make you feel guilty for having personal goals, boundaries, and ambitions.

Don't stop talking to your friends because your partner demands all your attention. Don't abandon your dreams because you want to make someone comfortable. Don't tolerate constant disrespect because you're afraid of being alone.

And please, don't confuse suffering with love. The fact that you've endured so much pain for someone doesn't automatically mean that person is right for you.

Real love requires compromise, but compromise should never become a one-sided sacrifice where only one person keeps giving while the other keeps taking.

Remember, you were somebody before you met your partner. You had dreams, interests, ambitions, and a life of your own. Being in a relationship should add value to your life, not make you forget your identity.

Of course, every relationship requires adjustments. Sometimes, you will need to make sacrifices, admit your mistakes, and put your partner's needs into consideration. But those sacrifices should come from love and mutual understanding, not from fear, manipulation, or desperation.

Never beg someone to see your worth when they are determined to overlook it.

Love someone genuinely, treat them well, remain loyal, and give the relationship your best. But always remember to love yourself, too.

Because if keeping someone requires you to abandon your happiness, dignity, and peace of mind, it's time to ask yourself whether you're protecting the relationship or slowly destroying yourself.

The right relationship won't require you to stop being yourself. It will give you the freedom to become an even better version of who you already are.

QUESTION: Have you ever lost yourself while trying to make someone happy in a relationship? What did that experience teach you?
