FC Barcelona defeated Real Betis 5-2 at the Estadio La Cartuja on Saturday, October 17, 2026, in La Liga Matchday 9.

The 19-year-old winger Lamine Yamal was the star of the show. He opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a beautiful curling effort from outside the penalty area after rolling the ball past Facundo Bernal. It was described as one of the finest goals of the weekend across Europe.

Real Betis equalized through Valentin Gomez in the 27th minute, but Rodri restored Barcelona's lead in the 41st minute before halftime.

After the break, Yamal turned provider, setting up Gabriel Jesus for Barcelona's third goal in the 51st minute. Abde Ezzalzouli pulled one back for Betis just two minutes later, but the game changed when Facundo Bernal was shown a straight red card in the 54th minute after a clash with Yamal. Yamal received a yellow in the same incident.

With a man advantage, Barcelona took control. Eric Garcia scored the fourth in the 62nd minute and Dani Olmo completed the scoring in the 81st minute.

The win takes Barcelona to 27 points from 9 games, with 39 goals scored so far this season. They have now equaled Real Madrid's 1968-69 record of winning their first nine league games and set a new club record.

Barcelona will now face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday, full of confidence after this ruthless display.

Yamal now has 8 goals and 6 assists in La Liga this season and continues to lead the Ballon d'Or conversation.
