Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes suffered double blow on Wednesday night as his house was burgled while his team was losing 4-1 to Como in Champions League.
According to Cheshire Police, the incident happened around 8:30pm on October 21 at his £4m mansion in Nether Alderley, Cheshire. Three masked men were spotted by a neighbor in the rear garden who quickly called police.
Police arrived within 10 minutes but suspects had already escaped after stealing designer jewellery and other valuable items.
Luckily, Fernandes' wife Ana Pinho and their two children were not at home during the incident. Manchester United confirmed they are supporting Fernandes and his family.
"At around 8.30pm on Wednesday, police were called to reports of suspicious activity. Officers discovered there had been a burglary and a number of items had been stolen. Investigation ongoing," police spokesperson said.
This is not the first time footballers in Cheshire are targeted. In January, Manchester City's Ruben Dias house was also burgled while he was playing Champions League game vs Galatasaray. Jack Grealish, Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez have also suffered similar attacks.
Police believe gangs track football fixtures and target players houses when they know they are away playing.
The burglary happened on same night Man United lost 4-1 to Como, extending their winless run to 7 games. Fernandes, 32, played full match and later said team needs to be "more brave."
Man United will host Bournemouth on Sunday as pressure grows on manager Michael Carrick.
