Many students underrate the importance of jotting down during lectures they see other students who do it as "too serious" minded but then one thing they fail to understand is that, jotting down is one way of teaching yourself personally which gives you a very vivid understanding of the topic that has been taught.
For example the lecturer talks about "rainy season" it's a very common knowledge that it is the frequently dropping of rainfall, furthermore the lecturer goes on to say that when it takes long before rainfalls falls, the water is dirty because zincs have been covered with dust.
Those students who joted down this can do a better explanation, but when it comes to student who don't chat they just write anything plane when it comes to exams and test.
The students who jot are seen as busy pen in class meanwhile is just a simple way to get good grades in tests and exams
