Prevention of the commission of crime.

Protection of life, liberty and property.

Preservation of peace and order in the community.

Enforcement of specific laws.

A person who has violated the law is apprehended by the police or any law enforcement agency but the case may be diverted where no sufficient ground can sustain complaint against the suspect.

Police typically are responsible for maintaining public order and safety, enforcing the law, and preventing, detecting, and investigating criminal activities. These functions are known as policing.

In the Criminal Justice System the police play the role of investigating the case and arresting the accused
