Joining Shuga Global

Following her departure from mainstream television news, Okwara is transitioning to an international organization. She is joining Shuga Global (widely known for MTV Shuga), an international NGO operating out of London that uses entertainment—such as TV drama series and multi-media campaigns—to educate young people across Africa on health, behavior change, and social issues.

Okwara steps into the role of Head of Investments and Partnerships, where she will oversee strategic relationships, government relations across East Africa, and funding initiatives to drive youth-centered health and social impact programmes.

Expected Compensation & Financial Package

While international non-profit organizations do not publicly disclose individual executive salary figures due to non-disclosure clauses, global senior leadership roles at NGOs like MTV Shuga typically offer competitive international pay packages.

  • Citizen TV Salary Baseline: Before her exit, Okwara was among Kenya’s highest-paid broadcasters, earning an estimated KSh 400,000 to KSh 900,000 per month plus substantial allowances.

  • New International Role: Senior global positions in international NGOs generally pay within the $80,000 to $150,000 annually range (approx. KSh 10 Million to KSh 19 Million per year), complemented by diplomatic/relocation benefits, health cover, and travel allowances.
