Many Nigerian students and restaurants spend a lot on foodstuff every week. This is an opportunity for you to become their regular supplier without owning a shop.
The bulk food supply business is simple. You buy food items in bags from cheap village markets and resell to hostels, restaurants, and food vendors at a small profit.
*What You Need To Start*
You don't need millions. With N70,000 you can start.
Your main products should be fast-moving food items:
Garri (Ijebu and Lebu), Rice, Beans, Palm Oil, Groundnut Oil, and Crayfish. These items are needed every day in hostels and restaurants.
*How It Works*
1. *Get Customers First:* Before you buy anything, visit 3 to 5 hostels or small restaurants near you. Speak with the managers or hostel leaders. Ask them what they buy weekly and their price. Tell them you can supply cheaper and deliver to them.
2. *Buy From Source:* Once you have orders, go to a wholesale market. If you are in the South West, buy garri from Oyo or Ogun villages. If you are in the East, buy palm oil from Imo or Abia markets. Buying from source saves you up to N8,000 per bag.
3. *Repackage and Deliver:* Most hostels don't want a full bag. They want to contribute money. You can repackage one bag of garri into 10 small paint buckets and sell each for N4,000. That is N40,000 from a N30,000 bag.
*N70,000 Capital Breakdown*
- 1 Bag of Garri: N30,000
- Half Bag of Rice (25kg): N26,000
- Transportation and Packaging Nylons: N10,000
- Contingency: N4,000
*How You Make N80k Weekly*
If you supply 2 hostels with one bag of garri and half bag of rice each, your profit will be around N20,000 per hostel. That is N40,000. If you do this twice a week for 4 different hostels, you will make between N70,000 to N85,000 profit weekly.
The secret to keep customers is honesty and timely delivery. Once a hostel trusts you, they will never leave you and they will refer you to other hostels.
This business can be done part-time alongside your job or studies.
