As a pharmacy student in Unilorin, my phone used to disturb me a lot when I am reading. I will just pick phone to check WhatsApp message for one minute and end up spending one hour on TikTok. I failed one test in 100 level because of that. So I changed how I use my phone to help me study better.
What I do now is, I will read my book first without phone. I will keep my phone inside my bag or put it on Do Not Disturb from 4am to 10am. I will read my note or textbook for like 1 hour or 50 minutes. After I finish reading one topic, that is when I will bring my phone.
I will open Meta AI on WhatsApp or ChatGPT and I will tell it, I just finished reading malaria drugs, ask me questions on it. Then it will ask me questions and I will try to answer. If I fail, it will correct me and explain the correct one. That way I know if I really understand or I am just deceiving myself.
Sometimes I will type, explain to me the essential points I need to know about drug metabolism in simple language. It will list the important points and I will compare with what I read. If I missed anything, I will go back and read it again. It also helps me to summarize long topics that are too much in textbook.
I also use it to check myself before exam. I will read for 2 hours, then I will tell ChatGPT to set 10 objective questions for me on that topic. I will answer and it will mark me. If I score low, I know I need to read that topic again. It is like having a personal tutor on my phone.
I deleted TikTok and Instagram during exam period, I only use YouTube to watch anatomy videos when textbook is confusing. I also use my phone torch when there is no light in hostel.
Now my phone is not my distraction again, it is my study partner. I read first, then I use Meta AI and ChatGPT to revise and correct me. If you try this method, you will understand better and you will not for
get quickly.
