Corrupted German convict has police officer parents in dassau
-----
when you think all murder suspects should have a fair punishment, there is a case in Germany dassau that a convict has his police mom and police officer step father and they help the convict from being guilty of killing someone else.
A female student studying abroad kindly helped someone, only to be murdered by a monstrous couple.
The case's lead investigator turned out to be the killer's parents!
Since ancient times, the story of the farmer and the snake has been a common tale.
Most of us are taught from childhood to be kind, but sometimes we forget that some people in this world are like venomous snakes, showing no gratitude for kindness and instead repaying it with enmity.
Like the female protagonist in our case today, who even paid the ultimate price.
Deadly Night Run
On May 11, 2016, Li Yang Jie, a student at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in Dessau, Germany, bought some groceries at a supermarket.
After returning to her dormitory and putting her things away, she changed into her running gear.
Although it was already 8:30 pm, due to Germany's high latitude, the sky was still as bright as day.
After saying goodbye to her roommates, Li Yang Jie put on her headphones and began her twilight run.
Li Yang Jie
This was a long-standing exercise for Li Yang Jie.
No matter how busy her studies were, she would always find time to jog.
Her usual route was through the old town, past museums and city parks.
But she had not gone far that day when a woman stopped her in front of a building not far away.
This young woman with a baby face spoke to her for about a minute, and although Li Yang Jie looked hesitant, she eventually followed her into the building.
The next morning, her classmate Zhou Lihong, as usual, sent Li Yang Jie a WeChat message.
The two were close and often met for breakfast together.
But this time, instead of a reply, she received a call from her roommate.
The roommate first asked if Li Yangjie was with Zhou Lihong, and after receiving a negative answer,
she said frantically that Li Yang Jie had not come home all night.
Her bedroom door was ajar, clothes were scattered on the bed, and her phone and workout clothes were missing.
Her phone had been switched off the whole time.
Li Yang Jie was a well-behaved and cautious girl.
During her studies in Germany, her social circle was limited to other international students on campus.
Furthermore, although she speaks fluent English, she is not proficient in German, making it impossible for her to go out alone overnight;
such a thing had never happened to her before.
A sense of foreboding gripped the two women, and they reported the matter to the school.
The school immediately organized a search involving teachers and students, who searched classrooms, laboratories, the library, and several places Li Yang Jie usually went jogging along.
At 1 p.m. that afternoon, the school, having found nothing, reported the incident to the police.
Dessau police deployed a large number of officers, including helicopters and police dogs, to thoroughly search all possible locations where Li Yangjie might be, focusing on areas with high crime rates.
In addition, local Chinese organizations responded actively, forwarding the information and volunteering to join the search.
However, a day and a night passed, and Li Yang Jie remained missing.
On the morning of May 13, the police attempted to call Li Yangjie's mobile phone.
Surprisingly, the call was answered this time, and a man's voice came through, but the call was quickly ended.
Due to the short call duration, the police were unable to locate her.
Around 11 a.m., a construction worker on Haussmann Avenue discovered a naked Asian woman lying between a makeshift toilet and bushes at a construction site.
Police confirmed she had no vital signs.
Through autopsy and DNA testing, the woman was identified as the missing Li Yang Jie.
She suffered multiple fractures and severe facial injuries, and bodily fluids were found in her body, making it unimaginable what kind of torture she endured before death.
So who is the killer?
Why would he murder the young and innocent Li Yang Jie?
A Long Search for the Killer
Li Yang Jie was born in 1990 in Jiaozuo City, Henan Province.
She came from a happy family;
her father was a policeman
and
her mother a teacher.
Li Yang Jie was an excellent student from a young age, gentle in nature, and an only child.
After graduating from high school, she was admitted to the Architecture Department of Henan University of Science and Technology.
Li Yangjie's father
After graduating with her bachelor's degree in 2014, Li Yangjie was admitted to Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in Germany with excellent grades.
Although many people are unfamiliar with this school, those who have studied design know that its predecessor was the renowned Bauhaus School, hailed as the cradle of modern art education.
Anhalt University of Applied Sciences is located in Dessau, a small city in eastern Germany with a population of about 100,000 Germany citizens
It boasts a beautiful environment surrounded by numerous old buildings and parks, and is about 110 kilometers from the capital, Berlin.
Like many other Chinese families, although Li Yangjie's family was not wealthy, her parents, hoping for their daughter's success, gritted their teeth and sent her abroad.
The moment she received her acceptance letter, the whole family was immersed in a joyful atmosphere.
Her parents escorted her to Beijing Capital International Airport, and watching their beloved daughter's departing figure, her mother shed tears of reluctance.
After Li Yangjie went abroad to study, her parents eagerly awaited her return home.
However, to everyone's dismay, just two months before graduation, Li Yangjie tragically passed away in a foreign land, leaving us forever.
Upon receiving the devastating news, Li Yangjie's parents immediately packed their bags, completed the necessary procedures, and boarded a flight to Germany.
They arrived in Dessau on May 20th.
The couple could not bear to face their daughter's body.
That night, the entire school held a vigil for Li Yangjie.
The mother knelt on the ground, unable to shed tears, while the father remained silent, lost in thought.
The next day, the couple went to the apartment where their daughter had lived.
Looking at her belongings, they were heartbroken.
Li Yangjie's father, a veteran detective with decades of experience, requested that the police accompany the couple to investigate the crime scene.
Detectives from the Dessau police station stated that the area had been sealed off.
They searched all the surrounding landfills and found some of Li Yangjie's clothing among more than fifty tons of garbage.
DNA testing revealed that the clothing matched the DNA found in Li Yangjie's body, but no matching information was found in the police database.
Li's father pondered the events, something felt off.
He repeatedly walked along the route his daughter took from her apartment to her last known location.
Suddenly, he realized that the deceased corpse or the dead body was dumped very close to the apartment, a route his daughter frequently took for her runs.
If it were a premeditated crime, the killer would not be foolish enough to leave the dead body so close by.
It seemed more like a spur-of-the-moment plan.
Could the killer be a neighbor in one of the nearby buildings?
Li Yangjie's father shared his theory with the police, surprising the detectives who said they had never considered this possibility.
The German polizei detektiv believed that the dead body was not the primary crime scene and was likely just a random dumping after the crime.
However, after hearing Li's father's analysis, the police found it compelling.
They deployed officers to investigate nearby German residents in the surrounding area, but after ten days of searching, there was still no breakthrough.
Just as the case reached a stalemate and the police were preparing to expand the search area, a young couple came to the Dessau police station.
They claimed to know some details of the case that might help in solving it, and what they said next shocked everyone.
Wrongfully Accused and Injusticed
The man, Sebastian Fletcher, was born in 1996.
The woman, Xenia Lang, was born in 1997.
She has three children, two of whom are with her current boyfriend.
Although both are in their twenties, neither of them attended university, nor even completed Germany's basic twelve years compulsory education.
Lacking any source of income, their parents rented an apartment for them, making them essentially "parasites" living off their parents.
This apartment was right next to where Li Yangjie's body was found.
Sebastian Fletcher told police that on the night of May 10th, the day before Li Yangjie disappeared, Sebastian Fletcher was at home watching cartoons to pass the time.
While his girlfriend, Xenia, was strolling down the street, she encountered Li Yangjie jogging.
Seeing her sweet appearance, she asked if she wanted to have a threesome.
Unexpectedly, Li Yangjie immediately agreed, and they went to Fletcher's apartment together.
They had a great time, and at the end, Li Yangjie even said they would meet again sometime.
Sebastian Fletcher said that they later heard that the girl had died and, fearing the police might find their DNA on the body, causing unnecessary trouble, they came specifically to explain the situation.
The Dessau police launched an investigation based on this lead.
Tests confirmed that the DNA in Li Yangjie's body belonged to Sebastian Fletcher.
Given the significant social impact of the case, the police immediately detained the couple as a precaution.
Okay, up to this point, the Dessau police's handling of the case was relatively normal.
However, what happened next was somewhat bizarre.
On May 24th at noon, Prosecutor Focke Petermann held a press conference, announcing the arrest of two suspects.
Whether they were the murderers was still under discussion, but the police knew that the deceased had voluntarily participated in a threesome with the two suspects before her death.
It can be said that this irresponsible press conference not only damaged Li Yangjie's reputation but also distorted public opinion.
The prosecution not only failed to corroborate the suspects' confessions but also deliberately concealed the bloodstains scattered throughout the suspects' apartment—on the floor, sofa, walls, radiators, and ceiling.
Li Yangjie's parents were devastated; they never imagined their daughter would suffer such accusations even after her death.
Students and teachers at her school described Li Yangjie as a very well-behaved and emotionally naive girl who lived a simple life, never staying out all night.
Furthermore, Li Yangjie was not fluent in German.
How could a girl like her possibly have done such a thing with two strangers who did not speak the language?
Following this absurd press conference, a friend of Li Yangjie came to the Dessau police station, claiming to have encountered her at the central station on the evening of May 10th, exchanging a few words.
Another friend present could corroborate this.
This friend's statement coincided with the period when the two suspects framed Li Yangjie.
Clearly, the couple was lying!
Why did the police release such flimsy testimony to the public?
Were they trying to hide some secret?
Let us continue reading on this sassy murder case
A City-Wide Turmoil
Actually, the police's initial investigation was misguided.
If it were not for Li Yang Jie own father's strong insistence on searching the surrounding area, putting pressure on the suspects and forcing them to surrender, the case might have remained unsolved for a long time.
The day after the press conference, some media outlets in China and Germany published unverified reports, leading to widespread skepticism from the uninformed public and causing a city-wide uproar.
The case quickly escalated, and soon almost all Chinese students in Germany stood up to protest.
The Chinese students who protested there all believed that the prosecution's release of false information misled the public and damaged the deceased's reputation.
The Chinese students who protested there also felt that the Germany police is inefficiently handling of the case, their delay in collecting and transferring key evidence, suggested they were protecting the perpetrators.
As public opinion spread, the case was amplified, and the media finally did something good:
the media had uncovered more secrets.
One of the original suspects, Sebastian Fletcher, had a mother who was a high-ranking official in the Dessau police department,
and his stepfather was the head of the Dessau police department.
The fact that the Dessau police department was solely responsible for investigating the Li Yangjie case has sparked much speculation.
What is even more infuriating is that the police deliberately concealed a crucial fact:
this man, Sebastian Fletcher, was suspected of over 40 crimes, including arson, theft, and assaulting women.
Yet, these crimes seemed to have no impact on his life;
Sebastian Fletcher was still living a carefree life until Sebastian Fletcher own surrender.
The reason for this is self-evident.
In May 2016, in addition to Chinese students in Germany, local Chinese organizations and many German citizens joined the movement to condemn Li Yangjie, demanding that the German police severely punish the perpetrator and bring justice to the victim.
As the situation escalated, under pressure, the authorities announced the suspension of Sebastian Fletcher's executive mother and stepfather, the police chief, with pay, and placed the case under the jurisdiction of the Halle police department, reopening the investigation.
Li Yangjie's father testified that on May 21st, the suspect's stepfather, the Dessau police chief, took him to the crime scene for investigation.
On the day of the incident, Mr. Li saw Sebastian Fletcher in front of the apartment, unaware that the police chief who led him to the scene and the man in the apartment were family.
Another witness claimed to have seen Sebastian Fletcher's both parents walking out of the apartment with him, carrying large bags of garbage, suggesting they were moving.
This occurred on the very night Mr. Li requested police to investigate the surrounding residents.
Subsequent examination revealed that Sebastian Fletcher's apartment had undergone repeated cleaning, but hundreds of bloodstains were still found in an empty unit, and some of the bloodstains had even splattered onto the ceiling over three meters high.
Neighbors reported that they had been hearing prolonged female screams coming from Sebastian Fletcher's apartment on the night of the incident.
However, knowing that the couple had certain unusual hobbies, they didn't pay much attention.
Later, Harley police found CCTV footage provided by the owner of an antique shop on the ground floor of Sebastian Fletcher's apartment.
At 9:20 PM on May 11th, Li Yangjie was jogging past this location when she was stopped by Xenia.
The two females spoke for about a minute;
Xenia appeared anxious and seemed to be pleading for help.
Li Yangjie hesitated for a moment before going into the apartment with her.
At 2:30 AM, Sebastian Fletcher left the apartment, circled around a few times seemingly searching for something, but quickly returned inside.
Li Yangjie, however, never emerged again.
The case seemed clear at this point, and Li Yangjie's exoneration should be coming soon, right?
However, the difficulties were far more complex than we imagined!
The Devilish Couple
First, Sebastian Fletcher's polizei parents claimed that the move was pre-arranged because the house had mold that could harm their health.
But the landlord quickly contradicted them, as a professional inspection showed the house was clean and free of mold.
The landlord testified that after the incident, Sebastian Fletcher had even paid six months' rent upfront, asking him not to rent to anyone else.
Police records from the telecommunications company revealed that Sebastian Fletcher had been found on spoke with his mother more than ten times on May 12, the day after Li Yangjie's disappearance, far exceeding his usual frequency.
Even just before turning himself in to the police, he spoke with his mother for 40 minutes.
On November 25, 2016, the Li Yangjie case officially went to trial.
Sebastian Fletcher's parents hired a senior lawyer and instructed the two defendants to cover their faces with their files, exercising their right to remain silent, with their lawyers answering all questions on their behalf.
The strong defense first argued that the most crucial evidence in the case—the surveillance video provided by the antique shop owner—was problematic.
The shop's surveillance footage did not capture Li Yangjie's murder, and the outdoor surveillance footage, being from a public area, involved personal privacy and therefore could not be released, nor could the court accept it.
In other words, the video only showed that Li Yangjie had entered the apartment;
whether she left or not was unknown.
Since the footage from the public area could not be released, whether it was captured or not was irrelevant.
At this point, the prosecution presented more evidence.
Several days before Li Yangjie's disappearance, Sebastian Fletcher had searched his computer for keywords related to Asian women, bondage, and beatings.
Furthermore, in the early morning of the day Li Yangjie was murdered, he searched for information on how to hide a body.
In addition, police found numerous vulgar videos on the two suspects' phones.
Combined with the computer search history, phone videos, DNA test results, and antique shop surveillance footage, each piece of evidence presented by the prosecution had irrefutable grounds.
Faced with overwhelming evidence, perhaps realizing her precarious situation, the female suspect, Xenia, finally wavered.
At her tenth court hearing, she finally revealed the truth of the case
Xenia said that she had been abused by her stepfather since childhood, and grew up with deep-seated inferiority complex.
After meeting Sebastian Fletcher, Xenia became extremely obsequious to him, fulfilling his bizarre demands.
If he showed the slightest dissatisfaction, she would be physically assault by him.
On the night of the incident, Sebastian Fletcher demanded that she find someone to play games with, so she was forced to lie to Li Yangjie, saying she had a large box at home that needed moving and hoped the other person could help.
After the two entered the apartment, Sebastian Fletcher rushed out, subdued Li Yangjie, and then subjected her to a night of torture.
During this time, any resistance from Li Yangjie was met with a beating.
Afterwards, Xenia went upstairs to shower, and when she came down, she found the floor covered in blood.
She asked her boyfriend what happened.
Sebastian Fletcher said she was dead.
Xenia cried and asked why he would not let her go home.
Her boyfriend said it was because she had disobeyed him.
Finally, the two put Li Yangjie's body in a trash can
and, under the cover of night, threw it out of a second-floor window.
Sebastian Fletcher had gone out and circled around several times to make sure Li Yangjie's body was properly hidden.
Xenia's lawyer emphasized that due to long-term oppression from her boyfriend and her unfortunate childhood,
and because Xenia was only 19 years old and not yet mentally mature when the crime occurred, they hoped the judge would give her a lenient sentence.
However, is this truly the case?
Was Xenia really forced into involvement?
Returning Home
Regarding Xenia's confession, the prosecution argued that she was facing a trial for conspiracy to commit murder and,
in an attempt to mitigate her sentence, attributed all the blame to her boyfriend and her unhappy childhood.
If it were not for Xenia, Li Yangjie would not have been deceived,
and Xie Nia even cooperated with her boyfriend in reporting the crime to the police, trying to cover up the truth.
Most importantly, the forensic report showed that Li Yangjie was still holding a tuft of Xenia's hair,
indicating that the two had fought,
contrary to Xenia's claim of portraying herself as a victim.
What is most perplexing is that even at this point,
Sebastian Fletcher's lawyer still had the audacity to tell the judge that his client had also suffered from psychological and mental illnesses,
far more severe than Xenia's, and
hoped for a similarly lenient sentence.
On August 4, 2017, after thirty five hearings, the Dessau District Court found Sebastian Fletcher guilty of multiple charges,
including murder and assault, and sentenced him to life imprisonment without parole.
Xenia, due to her voluntary confession and being under 21 years old, was sentenced to five and a half years in prison.
The families of both convicts were ordered to pay €60,000 in compensation to Li Yangjie's parents for emotional distress.
Lacking concrete evidence of Sebastian Fletcher's parents protecting their son, the court acquitted Sebastian Fletcher both parents.
In Germany, where the death penalty has been abolished, life imprisonment is the maximum penalty.
Sebastian Fletcher appealed the verdict,
but strangely, Xenia also appealed,
stating that she lacked love growing up and was manipulated by her boyfriend,
still feeling the sentence was too harsh.
Despite the couple's protests, they never offered a single apology to Li Yangjie's parents.
Unsurprisingly, both their appeals were rejected,
and the court upheld the original verdict.
Just as the case seemed to be closing and public opinion was calming down,
Sebastian Fletcher's mother and stepfather quietly returned to their official positions.
Furthermore, while the public mourned Li Yangjie,
the two high-ranking police officers hosted a lavish party to celebrate the opening of their winery,
attended by many socialites and dignitaries, the atmosphere brimming with joy.
After learning the details of this case, I was deeply disturbed.
The collusion among Dessau police officers, the parents' absolute power, and the inaction of the local police cast serious doubt on the German legal system, suggesting that ordinary people's lives are insignificant in the face of power.
According to insiders, in the early stages of the investigation, Sebastian Fletcher's mother explicitly instructed that the focus of the investigation be placed on the park and the old town area, emphasizing that this was definitely a mobile crime.
Therefore, during the search, the officers deliberately excluded Sebastian Fletcher's apartment, as everyone knew that it was the residence of the leader's beloved son.
This case has brought us too much pain.
Although both criminals have been punished by law, Li Yangjie will never return home.
The deceased is gone, and the living must go on.
May Li Yangjie rest in peace in heaven,
and may all overseas students remain vigilant and stay away from evil.
