A police officer fatally shot Joy Ndunge, his girlfriend, in Kanyonyoo, Kitui County. The shooting occurred Sunday night at a bar. According to witnesses, Ndunge had left her husband in Machakos. She told him she was seeking work in Kitengela (Kitengela - a nearby town). Constable Bernard Siambe confronted Ndunge at Password Bar (Password Bar - a local bar). He was carrying an AK-47 rifle. Ndunge ran to her friend Jane Ndanu’s house for safety. Siambe followed and shot both women dead. “He fired without hesitation,” said Stanley Kiilu, an eyewitness. Ndanu was killed while shielding Ndunge. Police found three spent cartridges at the scene. They recovered the rifle abandoned in a thicket (thicket - dense bushes). Siambe contacted his station commander after the incident. He disclosed where he hid the weapon. Authorities launched a manhunt for Siambe, who fled toward Matuu. Nearby stations are on high alert. Ndunge’s family is mourning her loss. She left behind two children and her husband. “She was shot multiple times,” said Jonathan Waema, Ndunge’s father-in-law. He spoke of the family’s grief. Ndunge was described as a loving mother. Her children are in Form Three and Grade Six. She had told her husband she was job-hunting. Instead, she was with Siambe in Kanyonyoo. The shooting followed a loud argument at the bar. Locals said Siambe caused a disturbance. Officers from Lower Yatta and Kitui examined the scene. They confirmed the details of the shooting. The bodies were taken to Kitui Level Five Hospital mortuary. Autopsies will determine the exact cause of death.
