I used to wake up at 3AM every night. Not because of noise, but because of overthinking. Thinking about who replied, who didn't, who likes me, what people think about me.
I was tired. So last month, I made a rule: I will stop 5 things. And my peace came back.
1. I Stopped Checking My Phone First Thing In The Morning
Before, I would wake up and open WhatsApp, Instagram, check who viewed my status. My whole mood would depend on that.
Now, I wait 1 hour. I pray, I drink water, I sit alone. My morning is mine, not for phone. Try it for 3 days, you will feel calmer.
2. I Stopped Explaining Myself To Everyone
I used to explain why I didn't come, why I said no, why I am quiet. I was always defending myself.
Now, I just say "No, I can't" or "Yes, that's how I feel". No long story. People who love you don't need explanation. People who don't, won't understand even if you explain.
3. I Stopped Keeping Conversations That Drain Me
I had one friend, every time we talk, I feel heavy and sad. I kept managing because we have known long.
I muted the chat. I didn't block, I just muted and stopped replying fast. My mental health improved in one week. It's okay to distance yourself.
4. I Stopped Comparing My Life On Instagram
I would see people traveling, buying iPhone 16, and I would feel like I am failing.
Then I realized, Instagram is highlights, not real life. I started limiting my time to 30 minutes in the evening. I feel more content with my own small wins now.
5. I Stopped Trying To Be Liked By Everyone
This was the hardest. I wanted everyone to like me. So I was always pleasing people.
Now I ask myself: "Do I like myself when I do this?" If no, I won't do it. Peace is more important than being liked.
The 3AM Rule I Now Follow
If I wake up at 3AM overthinking, I write it in a small book near my bed and tell myself: "We will think about this tomorrow morning." 90% of the time, morning comes and the problem is not that deep.
You don't need to change your whole life. Just stop these 5 small habits for 7 days and see how you feel.
