Manchester United are considering a surprise January move for Leeds United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
According to The Athletic, United's recruitment department is assessing the market for centre forwards ahead of the January window, and the 29-year-old England international is one of five names under consideration.
The interest is being driven by the situation surrounding Benjamin Sesko. Manager Michael Carrick confirmed on Thursday that the Slovenian forward will be out for several weeks with a recurrence of a shin injury.
Reports from The Sun claim Sesko could be sidelined for up to four months, until January 2027, after undergoing thorough checks at Carrington. The club does not want to rush him back.
Sesko, 23, has only played 76 minutes of Premier League football this season and last featured in mid-September when United were beaten by Brighton in the Carabao Cup.
With Sesko out, Joshua Zirkzee remains the only natural striker. Bryan Mbeumo has been forced to play as a false nine in the last five games as United sit 16th in the Premier League with just 7 points from 8 games.
Why Calvert-Lewin?
Calvert-Lewin joined Leeds on a free transfer after leaving Everton in summer 2025 and has revived his career under Daniel Farke. He has scored 20 goals in 49 games for Leeds, including 4 goals in 8 Premier League games this season.
He recently scored at Old Trafford on October 18, firing past Senne Lammens to secure a 1-1 draw for Leeds after Bryan Mbeumo had opened the scoring for United.
United had a chance to sign him for free last summer but rejected it over fitness concerns. Now they are reconsidering.
Will Leeds Sell To Bitter Rivals?
A transfer is expected to be very difficult and is thought to be remote. Manchester United and Leeds are historic rivals and rarely do business together.
Leeds are also planning to offer Calvert-Lewin a new contract to extend his current deal which runs until June 2028.
There is no indication that United have made a formal offer. The interest remains at the exploratory stage.
