Truth Exposed: The Shocking Amount Raila Was Allegedly Paid to Exit 2027 Race

Ruto moves to meet key Raila demands with protest victims payout - The EastAfrican

There is no credible evidence that Raila Odinga was paid to withdraw from the 2027 presidential contest. What is documented are details about public spending in relation to his African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship bid—not any payments related to abandoning a presidential aspiration.

Here are what the verified reports show:

  • The Controller of Budget revealed the government allocated Ksh 523.8 million for Raila’s AUC campaign; this was for international candidatures activities.

  • Out of that, only Ksh 216.2 million was actually requested and approved for use by the State Department of Foreign Affairs.

  • Another claim comes from Senator Okiya Omtatah: he alleges a discrepancy in the Budget Policy Statement where Ksh 18 billion was unaccounted for. He suggests this may have been to fund Raila’s AUC campaign. Raila has responded, denying any such large payment, saying the government only provided transport and, in some cases, accommodation.

So while there are serious allegations of misuse or diversion of public funds tied to the AUC bid, none of the credible sources say Raila was paid to quit or drop a 2027 presidential bid.
