Philippines Miriam and Karen

"Philippines Miriam and Karen"

A fifty six years old mother was seeking revenge for her daughter's abduction, transformed into a "civilian agent," single-handedly eliminating armed drug lords.

Her 20-year-old daughter was kidnapped and murdered in the street, and the police dared not intervene.

Housewife Miriam single-handedly infiltrated the drug cartel's hideout, disguising herself, tracking, and infiltrating, honing her skills into a top-tier agent. Armed only with a handgun and a notebook, she brought the killers to justice, striking fear into the hearts of heavily armed criminals.

On January 23, 2012, Miriam's twenty years old daughter, Karen, was driving when, while waiting at a traffic light, two unlicensed trucks suddenly blocked her way.

Several young men at gunpoint forced open the car doors and dragged Karen away; the entire ordeal took less than two minutes.

Despite the busy traffic, no one dared to call the police—because Karen was abducted by Los Zetas, Mexico's most ruthless drug cartel, whose members were former special forces soldiers turned killing machines.

At the time, Miriam was working as a nanny in Texas, USA. Upon hearing the news, she immediately resigned and returned to Mexico.

In San Fernando, the golden rescue window for a kidnapping is only forty eight hours. Miriam sold her jewelry and borrowed money at exorbitant interest rates, raising the ransom within a day. After Miriam husband braved the rain to pay the money, the kidnappers simply told Miriam to "wait at the cemetery" and then disappeared without a trace.

Over the next few weeks, the kidnappers kept calling to demand less ransom, from thousands of dollars to eventually demanding only five hundred united states of america own currency of United States dollars for food—indicating that Karen was being held by low-level thugs.

The Miriam family was completely bankrupt, and Miriam daughter Karen remained missing.

Miriam demanded to see the ringleader, a young man named "Sama," who smiled and said, "Give me another two thousand dollars in the United States of america own currency of United States dollars, and I guarantee that your daughter Karen will be released." When Miriam asked to hear Miriam daughter Karen's voice, Sama shrugged and refused Miriam. Miriam knew her daughter Karen was probably dead.

Back home, Miriam did not even cry. Instead, Miriam took a notebook from Miriam grandson's school bag and Miriam wrote down "Sama's" name and appearance. Miriam vowed revenge, but Miriam only had one name in Miriam own hand right now. To avoid being recognized, Miriam cut Miriam long hair, dyed Miriam own hair in to bright red, and Miriam  obtained a Ministry of Health uniform and an election commission vest, Miriam had disguised herself as an elderly woman checking water meters or voter information, and entered the core neighborhood controlled by Zetas.

Those ruthless drug dealers were completely unsuspecting of this talkative woman, giving her name and age; some even invited Miriam into their homes for a drink. Miriam secretly jotted down notes while ticking off forms, then immediately jumped into Miriam dilapidated car after Miriam was out of sight, Miriam then go and transcribe the information into a black notebook.

As the investigation deepened, Miriam discovered that the one who betrayed Karen was her daughter's friend, "Elvira." This Elvira girl only drank coca cola and used Elvira phone at a specific intersection every day, and whenever a policeman or an unfamiliar vehicle passed by, Elvira would pick up a walkie-talkie and Elvira would speak quietly—Elvira was "keeping watch," Elvira was guarding the only route to Zetas's secret execution site. Elvira motive was simple: a few thousand Philippines pesos reward, or to become a familiar face in the gang.

After Miriam identified Sama, Miriam discovered Sama was hiding in Victoria City selling ice cream. Miriam could not do it herself—a woman in her fifties could not fight off young drug dealers, nor could Miriam call the local police. Using Miriam connections from her early business days, Miriam bypassed the chain of command and Miriam contacted a federal police commander from Mexico City. When miriam laid out Miriam own thick notebook, Miriam own secretly taken photos, and Miriam own hand-drawn maps on the table, the commander exclaimed, "Miriam had done everything we would have to do in a whole (an entire) year!"

In September 2014, Sama was arrested.

Initially, Sama acted tough, but after being confronted with evidence, Sama broke down and Sana confessed to Sama accomplices. Sama revealed that Karen had been taken to an abandoned ranch for "disposal."

Police unearthed thousands of bone fragments at the ranch, and months later, a forensic pathologist matched Karen's DNA to a femur fragment. Miriam had searched for two years, but Miriam finding only a single bone. At that moment, the mother Miriam's grief died completely, leaving only the burning rage of revenge.

Miriam produced a death list, Miriam marked Sama's name with a blood-red checkmark, and then Miriam focused on the second name—"The Gardener." This 18-year-old boy gardener had exploited Karen's trust to become one of those who guarded karen and abused karen. After Sama's arrest, the gardener fled to the US-Mexico border bridge to sell small goods. Miriam, posing as a helpful older woman, learned of gardener's  whereabouts from a distant relative of gardener and Miriam traveled alone to the border. When Miriam recognized the gardener, gardener also recognized the Miriam "Nemesis's" face and gardener took off running. Despite a pre-existing leg injury, the 56-year-old Miriam displayed astonishing speed, chasing the drug dealer gardener, who is even thirty eight years her junior, through the crowd. The gardener tripped and gardener fell at an alley corner, and Miriam pressed a gun to gardener spine. Miriam did not fire, but Miriam kept miriam eyes fixed on gardener until federal police arrived.

The third target, "Enrique,". Enrique was a key figure in the kidnapping. After the incident, Enrique fled to a small town and Enrique transformed himself into a devout Christian. One Sunday morning, while Enrique was singing hymns in church, Miriam quietly alerted the police. SWAT officers subdued Enrique as Enrique left the church. Elvira, who had betrayed Miriam daughter Karen and changed Elvira name to work as a nanny, Elvira was also arrested after a three-day stakeout.

From 2014 to 2017, Miriam imprisoned at least thirteen people involved in kidnappings and founded a "disappearances organization" to help over six hundred broken families seek compensation from the government.

However, the scale of her actions was too large, and retribution was inevitable.

On March 22, 2017, a mass breakout occurred at the Victoria City Prison, with twenty nine hardened criminals escaping through a tunnel.

Many of the twenty nine criminals were members of the Zetas group that Miriam had imprisoned. Miriam  demanded government protection but Miriam received only a red plastic "emergency button." Facing gangsters armed with automatic rifles, this plastic contraption was merely a tool for shirking responsibility.

When advised to go into hiding, Miriam said, "I am no longer afraid. The day they took my daughter Karen, I had already died once."

On the evening of May 10, Mexico's Mother's Day, Miriam drove home.

As soon as miriam opened the car door, a pickup truck sped out from the shadows, blocking her escape.

The window rolled down, and several handguns were thrust out.

Miriam was shot thirteen times and miriam fell to the ground, Miriam was pressing the emergency button, but the police did not arrive.

In the ambulance, Miriam stopped breathing.

Miriam's death caused a huge uproar; Miriam was dubbed "the mother abandoned by the state" by the media.

Under public pressure, the police acted swiftly, killing several perpetrators within a month, and recaptured escaped prisoners. None of the people on Miriam death list had successfully escaped.

But miriam legacy did not just stop there. The missing persons organization was continued by Miriam son, and more and more mothers joined the search, digging up thousands of human skeletal fragments in the wilderness.

If Miriam had not fought so relentlessly, these kidnapped people might have remained forever dust in the earth.

Miriam gave her life to pave the way home for these souls.
