The Nigerian Independent System Operator has confirmed that the national electricity grid has returned to normal operation after a partial disturbance on Monday.

The system operator said the disturbance happened at about 12:40 pm on Monday afternoon. It said multiple trippings occurred on the 330 kilovolt transmission network. The operator worked with the Transmission Company of Nigeria to stabilise the system.

The NISO said the problem was confined to part of the network. It rejected reports of a nationwide grid collapse. It said power supply has been restored in affected areas.

The operator directed the public to its official communication channels for verified updates on the network. It said it will continue to monitor the grid to ensure stable electricity supply.

The partial disturbance caused power outage in some parts of Lagos, Abuja and other states for several hours. Many Nigerians took to social media to complain about the outage. The grid has experienced several disturbances in recent months.

In a related development, a tanker accident occurred at Otedola Bridge along Lagos Ibadan Expressway on Monday. The tanker was said to have fallen and caused fire outbreak. Two persons were injured with severe burns according to road safety officials.

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps and Lagos State Fire Service arrived at the scene to control the fire and rescue victims. The injured persons were taken to hospital for treatment. The road was cleared for traffic flow after several hours.

Otedola Bridge has recorded several tanker accidents in recent years due to its sloppy nature. The Lagos State government has warned tanker drivers to drive carefully and observe speed limits while plying the bridge.

The federal government has said it is working to improve power infrastructure across the country. The Minister of Power has said new investments are being made in transmission and distribution networks to improve electricity supply.

Nigerians have called for better maintenance of power infrastructure to avoid frequent disturbances. They said stable electricity is important for businesses and daily life.
