*NECO CBT 2025: Federal Government Confirms Computer-Based Exams Are Coming – Here’s What Students Need To Know*

_[OFFICIAL UPDATE + WHAT CHANGES FOR YOU]_

*NECO is going digital. The Minister of Education just confirmed it at the council’s 25th Anniversary in Abuja.*

If you’re writing NECO this year or next, your exam experience is about to change. The Federal Government has officially announced that the National Examinations Council will begin transitioning to Computer-Based Examinations, starting with objective papers in 2025.

Here’s the full breakdown so you don’t get caught off guard.

*🔍 What Did The FG Actually Announce?*

On Thursday, Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa announced the reform during NECO’s Silver Jubilee celebration in Abuja.

He said: _“We are at the threshold of a very important reform, which NECO is spearheading, and that is the Computer-Based Examination, which is to commence this year.”_

The move is part of FG’s plan to curb exam malpractice, improve security, and bring Nigeria’s exams up to global standards.

*📅 Timeline: When Will CBT Start?*

1. *November 2025*: Objective papers for NECO and WAEC will be fully CBT.

2. *May/June 2026*: Full migration, including essay and practical papers, will be CBT.

3. *Exams will move to accredited CBT centres*, not inside schools like before.

This was confirmed during NECO’s pilot CBT SSCE held in July 2025 at SASCON International School, Abuja.

*💻 Why Is NECO Switching To CBT?*

According to the minister, the new system will:

1. *Reduce exam malpractice* - Real-time monitoring makes it harder to cheat

2. *Improve exam security* - Questions and results are encrypted and harder to leak

3. *Enable real-time monitoring* - Officials can track suspicious activities as they happen

4. *Modernize Nigeria’s exam system* - Align with JAMB, WAEC, and global standards

5. *Speed up results* - Objective papers can be marked instantly

Alausa called it “a major step forward for NECO and Nigeria’s education system.”

---

*🌍 NECO’s Digital Expansion*

At the same event, NECO revealed it now conducts exams in *8 countries* outside Nigeria. The council has also expanded digital operations like:

- Electronic result verification

- Online registration and result checking

- Technology-driven exam processes

This shows the council is already building the infrastructure for full CBT.

*❓ Will There Be An Option For Paper-Pencil Test?*

This is the big question students are asking.

As of today, the minister did not confirm if candidates will have a choice between CBT and the traditional Paper-Pencil Test (PPT) for 2025. NECO is expected to release more implementation details in the coming weeks.

For now, assume you’ll be writing CBT for objective papers from November 2025.

*🚩 What Students Should Do Now*

1. *Start practicing with CBT apps* - JAMB CBT apps, NECO past questions apps, and free online simulators

2. *Learn basic computer skills* - Typing, using a mouse, navigating tabs. You’ll need it

3. *Watch NECO’s official channels* - Don’t rely on WhatsApp rumors. Check NECO website and verified social media for updates

4. *Ask your school* - Find out if your school is an accredited CBT centre or if you’ll write elsewhere

---

*✅ Safer Way To Prepare*

If you’re worried about the switch, don’t panic. JAMB has been running CBT since 2013, and millions of students have passed through it.

Use these resources to practice:

- *JAMB CBT Mobile App* - Free on Play Store with NECO-style questions

- *NECO Past Questions Portals* - Many are already converted to CBT format

- *Lodpost.com/ref/amica* - Write practice articles on exam tips and earn while you prepare. No deposit needed

---

*🚨 Final Word: Prepare Early, Don’t Wait*

NECO CBT is not a rumor anymore. It’s official policy. The earlier you start practicing, the less stressful it will be when your exam date comes.

*Rule to remember:* Technology changes the exam, but not the syllabus. If you study well and practice CBT, you’ll be fine.
