My life in the hands of the cruel world.

My name is Rachel. I am the eighth born in a family of nine. Born in the mid eighties  life was not easy especially with the absence of our mom.

Our lives changed drastically  upon arrival from urban areas to upcountry.  I was barely a year old and that did not hinder life's  challenges from  coming after me.

Our elder siblings were supposed to take care of us from feeding, bathing and even doing our laundry. This was abit tricky  because  they too were too young to handle some of these chores. I can remember vividly one night as our brothers were carrying us to bed since we  did not have shoes  and one of them dropped my sister on the ground.  She cried  in pain but no one came to her rescue.

The major problem then was food. There were so many days and nights that we slept hungry.I could almost hear all the night sounds of animals, people, trees and water bodies.

One day as we were playing outside,  one of our brothers spotted  a chicken stranded on our compound. We knew it belonged to our neighbour  but we went ahead and slaughtered it. That night we had a wonderful  dinner.

Most of the weekends were spent at our aunt's  so that we can have a perfect meal. One fateful day  during our visits at our aunt's home one of his sons attempted to take advantage of me and i screamed  so loud that he opened the door  without further delay. That is how i was saved from a heinous  act.
