INTRO
For 30 days I tested affiliate marketing with ₦0 ad budget. No website, no 10 platforms. Just *Selar*, *Facebook*, and *WhatsApp*.
I promoted 1 digital product in the "make money online" niche. My goal: build trust, close in DM, and see if I could make my first commission.
Here’s exactly what happened.
*Week 1: Setup + The Product Choice [Day 1-7]*
I signed up on Selar and picked one course.
*Important advice I learned here: Check if the product is a "hot product" before you promote it.*
That means people are already buying it. Check the reviews, check if others are promoting it, check the sales page. If nobody is buying it, it’ll be 10x harder for you. I chose this one because I saw it was already selling.
The product was *₦35,000 with 55% commission*. That’s ₦19,250 per sale.
At first I thought "Who will pay ₦35k from Facebook?" But I decided to test it anyway.
On Facebook I posted value content: "3 mistakes I made trying to make money online". At the end I used: "DM me on WhatsApp for details". The post link took them straight to my WhatsApp.
Result after 7 days: 21 people in my DM. 0 sales. But I was learning.
*Week 2-3: Facebook → WhatsApp → Trust → Close [Day 8-21]*
This is where it worked.
My process:
1. *Facebook post* - Share tips about making money online
2. *WhatsApp DM* - Ask what they’re struggling with
3. *Build trust* - Send free tips, voice notes, answer questions for 1-2 days. No pressure
4. *Present the product* - After trust, I send the ₦35,000 Selar link and explain how it solves their problem
5. *Follow up* - Check back if they’re still interested
*Here’s what shocked me: Price wasn’t the problem.*
I thought ₦35,000 was too much. But from experience, I realized if the product can solve the buyer’s problem, and you build trust + close the sale well, price stops mattering.
People don’t pay for a course. They pay for the result.
On Day 14: First sale. ₦19,250 commission.
On Day 19: Second sale. ₦19,250 again.
By Day 21: *42 clicks, 2 sales, ₦38,500 earned.*
*Week 4: The Reality [Day 22-30]*
The last week slowed down. Some people ghosted. Some said "next month".
Final 30-day stats:
*People in DM*: 58
*Clicks to Selar*: 67
*Sales*: 2
*Commission*: ₦38,500
Not millions. But proof that the system works.
*5 Lessons I Learned*
1. *Promote hot products* - If people are already buying it, you’re not starting from zero
2. *Price isn’t the barrier* - ₦35,000 sold because I solved a problem, not because it was cheap
3. *Facebook for traffic, WhatsApp for sales* - The DM is where the money is made
4. *Trust before link* - Send the link too early and you’ll get ignored
5. *This is work* - 1-2 hours daily replying DMs
*FAQ*
*Can you sell expensive products as a beginner?* Yes. My ₦35,000 product sold twice.
*Do you need ads?* No. 0 naira spent.
*Would I do it again?* Yes. Now I know how to pick products and close better.
*Conclusion*
Affiliate marketing isn’t about dropping links. It’s about trust.
In 30 days I made ₦38,500 by picking a hot ₦35,000 product, and selling it through conversation on WhatsApp
.
Month 2, I’m doubling down on the same system.
