Bailey slipped on her shoes, curious about what Mirabella had in mind.
"I'm going to get him back for every time he made us listen to that garbage," Mirabella muttered as they stepped out into the cold night air. Bailey shivered in her thin sleep clothes and hurried to catch up.
"And how exactly are you going to do that?" she whispered.
"Simple," Mirabella said with a smirk. "I'm going to drown him."
Bailey froze — drown him? Surely she didn't mean literally. She shook her head and followed Mirabella to the big tree right beside Kaleb's open bedroom window. The noises from inside were awful; Bailey's stomach twisted. Whatever Mira had planned, she just hoped it would make it stop.
"When I'm done, they'll be the ones begging for mercy," Mirabella said, nodding toward a garden hose attached to the nearby pipe. She pointed to a thick branch that stretched right over Kaleb's window — the same one Kaleb always used to sneak in and out.
Bailey got the idea and covered her mouth to stifle a giggle.
"Plan is: help me up this tree," Mirabella said. "Then you toss the hose up to me. When I give the signal, turn the water on."
Bailey boosted Mirabella up. It was a struggle — Mira was heavy — but she made it onto the branch, clinging tight and looking a little queasy. Bailey tossed the hose up; the first try smacked Mirabella's hand, but on the second, she caught it. Mirabella aimed the hose right through Kaleb's open window and gave a thumbs-up.
Bailey twisted the valve open. Cold water blasted straight into the room, right onto Kaleb's bed. The girl inside shrieked. They heard Kaleb roar in shock. The two girls laughed hysterically — until headlights flooded the yard. Their parents' car pulled into the driveway.
"Oh sh*t," Bailey breathed.
Mia and their dad stepped out, seeing everything. "What is going on?!" Mia shouted. Mirabella panicked, lost her balance, and tumbled right out of the tree, landing with a soft thump on the grass beside Bailey.
