I failed. Not once. I started a business, I put my small money, my data, my hope inside. And it failed.I sat down and thought so this is it? I am not good enough?
If you are reading this and your business failed, this is for you. I am not here to motivate you with fake talk. I am here to tell you what I did to start again.
1. I allowed myself to grieve, but not for too long. I cried for 2 days. Not more. I told myself: "You have 48 hours to be sad, after that, you plan." If you keep crying for 1 month, poverty will join the crying. Feel it, then face it.
2. I wrote what killed the business.
I took my phone notepad and wrote honestly:
i. Did I spend profit?
ii. Did I copy someone else?
iii. Did I have no customers or bad pricing?
iv. Did I stop posting?
The answer I got: My own list was: I spent profit, I was inconsistent, I wanted fast money. When you know what killed it, you won't repeat it.
3. I started with what I have, not what I lost. I did not wait for capital. I looked around:
What skill do I have? Writing.
What do I have? Phone and data.
What can I sell today? My words.
If you have any other skills you can put it to practice. Don't just sit waiting for capital, start something. It can be content creation, teaching, writing and any other thing you are good at
You don't need ₦100k to start again. You need your phone and one skill.
4. I started small and shameless.
I stopped waiting for big business. I started small: Small money is not shameful. No money is shameful.
5. I told my story.
People don't buy perfection. They buy story. I told people: "My business failed, this is what I am doing now." And they supported me. Your failure is now your content. Your content is now your new business.
Just know that you are not starting from zero. You are starting from experience.
