A 50-year-old man in West Yorkshire, England, who had just overcome lung cancer, was tragically shot and killed at a bus stop six months later. Police investigations revealed he was a victim of a mistaken identity, and the real target was someone else.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 9 pm on August 12th last year. Police responded to a shooting report at a bus stop in Wakefield and found 50-year-old Dale Stogden with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to the hospital but died shortly after. Police subsequently tracked down three suspects. Further investigation revealed that 28-year-old Leyton Davies, who was in the passenger seat of a Toyota RAV4 SUV, opened fire on the day of the incident. Two other accomplices, Adam Ahmed and Marc Carter, were also in the vehicle. The car was stolen.

Police discovered from the three suspects' communication records that they had initially targeted two other men who were near the bus stop with Dale Stogden at the time. Detective James Entwistle stated that based on the evidence they had, the deceased, Dale Stogden, was not their target. After two weeks of trial, Leyton Davies was convicted of murder last Thursday (12th), while the other two were convicted of manslaughter.
The report mentioned that the deceased, Dale Stogden, was declared fully recovered from cancer in February 2025, but tragically, he was murdered just six months later. Dale had two daughters, aged 18 and 20, who both described their father as kind-hearted, always smiling, and the kindest and most humorous person in the world.
